Patsy Pease, who plays Kimberly Brady on Days of our Lives said that she is looking forward to the show's 50th anniversary and is so proud to be able to be a part of such a monumental program.
"Yes! I can't even think of a favorite moment. It was everyday," Pease said. "I love being Kim Brady. I have my life, and she has hers. I tend to mine and I tend to hers. I love it!"
Pease has been on Days of our Lives since 1984, and is celebrating her 31st year. Back in the day, Pease along with Charles Shaughnessy (Shane) were the hottest couple on daytime TV. In fact, they were once called "the" Super Couple.
Pease's character has been through it all -- lovers, trials and tribulations, and even went through a period of hysterical blindness, which she portrayed so well.
Living today in Florida, and really enjoying life, Pease said that she still is able to come back to Los Angeles when called upon to do the show, and that is wonderful.
"I love it! I come in to keep up with the character. I come in to move the story forward," Pease explained. "I fly in to tidy up. I clean the mess that is there."
Reflecting back, Pease often wonders how she even won the role of Kimberly Brady. "I have to tell you, I do wonder that, " she said with a laugh. "I was the complete makeover before there even was such a show. I was not a beautiful woman. I was overweight, my teeth needed fixing, and I had the wrong hair. This show has beautiful women. Like a beauty contest. I was like, what am I doing here? I was the country bumpkin from the South."
Pease admitted that it was Days of our Lives that taught her to dress, the need to see a dentist, and shall we say...make a lady out of her. She jokingly said, that it was like the show needed to send her to charm school.
"I remember auditioning and getting a call from then casting director, Doris Sabbagh, telling me to report. I called back and said, are you sure? You are sure you want Patsy Pease?"
Pease said that when she got the role she didn't even have a car to get to work. There were times she thumbed her way and then bought a Moped (motor bike) to get to the studio, only to hide it in the bushes so no one would see her.
Pease attributes her success to everyone involved with the show. "I mean it is true. Everyone at Days is great! The actors, producers, directors, writers, hair and make-up, wardrobe, just every one," she said. "And I have to tell the viewers this is a remarkable show and that is the reason the show made it to the big 50."
Pease said that as an actress it never really sunk in on what it is she does, adding that she is an actor doing her job. She loved almost every scene that she has been in and recalls a few in particular to be hysterically funny.
Pease jubilantly remembers being in a a bathroom scene with Charles Shaughnessy. Picture it!
Shane was going to romance his lover, Gillian, only to find Kimberly in the tub. He was shocked to see Kim there. In the meantime Gillian entered and Kim hid under water. Shane was looking where did Kim go? Gillian thought he made a romantic bath for her, and suddenly Kim emerged gasping for air.
"I have to tell you, Charlie broke character. It was a riot. I mean I pop up gasping for air," Pease said. "I will tell you, things do happen. I remember another scene of popping the champagne cork, it went up and came back and hit Charlie. Oh those were moments."
Pease reminisced about how Days of our Lives has changed her life, it has given her a voice and to be able to help people through her experiences in life. She talks around the country to people on her own mishaps and misfortunes in life, like going through many back surgeries/mental health/children's rare diseases, of which her son suffers from called 'Arthrogryposis' (congenital joint contractures in two or more areas of the body).
"I love this show. Stories started back in the day with selling soap. Stories have been around since caveman days. I mean everyone loves a good story," Pease said. People love it, and I think to see an actor tell a great story is wonderful, and that is what Days of our Lives does."
Soapdom wants to know if you have a message to your fans? "Well,' she began,"I'm a fan, too! Thanks for the years of being there. We grew together, and let's go on together for 50 more years. Happy Anniversary Days of our Lives."
