Decked in formal best, most are gorgeous, others should check the mirror

Gina Tognoni (Dinah, Guiding Light)It’s a given that soap opera actors and actresses are beautiful, flawless people. They have to be. The video tape medium is very unforgiving.   It not only shows, but magnifies, any blemish, grey hair, extra pound or two.

I’ll never forget my very first encounter with a group of soap opera actors. I was visiting the set of All My Children. This had to be in the fall of 1994 when I was conducting research for a television series I was developing.  At All My Children, it was the early morning run through. No outsiders were ever permitted, but I received special consideration thanks to a close friend of mine who worked on the show.

There we were at 7:30 AM.  The stars were arriving, getting their coffee and bagels, running their lines, working out the stage directions. They were straight out of bed, into jeans, a t-shirt and a cab to the studio.  No make up. No styled hair.  Just fresh faced and ready to work.  And there’s me thinking, “Oh my. I’ve never been in a room with 30 or more of the handsomest men and most gorgeous women at the same place at the same time before in my life!”

As we all well know, daytime stars love to come out in their formal best whether it’s for the Daytime Emmys, a worthy cause or just to have some good ole fun.  When they dress to kill, they usually nail it.  But not all the time.

Here’s your chance to tell us what you think about some of the looks and styles worn by the daytime celebs at this year’s recent Daytime Emmy Awards.  Be candid. If you love a look, let us know. If you think the look needs work, feel free to say so.  But remember, actors are people too, so let’s refrain from being downright mean, kay?

Past Blast

Days of our Lives' Blake Berris on Meth Head

Blake Berris of Days of our Lives in a movie? You bet. The talented actor not only lights up the screen on Days as the twisted character of Nick Fallon that he so eloquently plays, but now he co-stars in "Meth Head" an independent feature film that was just screened in Washington, DC.  -- to rave reviews.

"Yes! I just came back from the screening. I'm still in Washington and I was thrilled to read the reviews in the papers," Berris said. "This film is something I really wanted to do."

Berris plays Dustin, a character who befriends Kyle, the lead character, played by Lukas Hass ("Lincoln", "Inception", " Brick"), and let's just say he leads him down the pathway of life to hell.
